This health check has been designed to assist you in identifying and clarifying the specific areas of your business that may need an improvement plan for upskilling staff, enhancing business development, and ensuring business success.

Read the section questions and give an honest performance score on a scale of 1-4

Total your numerical score and check it against the graded matrix on page 3.

At the end of this process, you will be able to see your performance in individual areas whilst also generating an overall performance score. This should give you a guide to identifying strengths and weaknesses as a prerequisite to planning, evaluating, and strategising necessary changes for business improvement.

Does your leadership team have the environment, resources, and training in order to ensure they achieve their full potential? Can you identify weaknesses in your own leadership skills?
04. Project Delivery and Job Management*
Do you know precisely where your current projects are in terms of time, cost, and scope?
05. Scheduling and Organisation*
Are tasks planned, prepared, and prioritised? Do you feel in control of the day-to-day activities that your business undertakes?
06. Client Servicing*
Do you seek feedback from your clients to ensure that their expectations have been met in order to promote customer relations and retention? How often do you do this?
07. Financial Performance*
Do you consistently meet financial goals, budgets, and projections? Are targets for the financial performance of your business being met?
08. Business Value and Return*
Is your business sustainable? Is the value of your business continually growing? Do you monitor and assess both gross and net profits on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis? Have you developed practical and realistic financial forecasts that identify possible risks?
09. Business Goals*
For short, medium, and long-term goals, does your direction have clarity and are your targets being met? Does your business strategy and your business plan align with your long-term vision?
10. Risk Management*
Do you have an active and robust process for identifying and addressing key risks that may have a negative impact on your business? Do you undertake a ‘lessons learned’ evaluation on a regular basis?

31 - 40

If you scored 31 or more, then it sounds like your business has undergone a pretty sound health check and that you are prepared to attain your goals and visions as set out within the framework of your company’s future forecast. However, you might need to consider further strategic growth opportunities or other refined modifications which would enhance your longer-term success.

21 - 30

If you scored between 21 and 30, there is a good chance that you are experiencing some problems. These may be internal with regards to staff performance, from a financial perspective or from other underlying factors. Contacting a business consultant to seek advice would be beneficial for you to explore remedial action and be given focussed and appropriate recommendations.

Below 20

If you scored below 20, there is a good chance that you are experiencing significant problems. A business consultant could offer you a performance review which, in turn, might lead to a turnaround plan, the overhaul of company policies and the possibility of a business restructure.
